I wish I could play the piano. this kid is only 14... Watch at least a few seconds of it if you like really beautiful songs/and/or piano music.

<lj-embed id="10" />

I just got finished playing Silent Hill 2 in Japanese, which was pretty cool. Though I did get sick of reading 何何を手に入れた (you got the...) all the time. I wish more games came with JP lang settings, but they usually translate it into English in Japan then send only that version over to Europe and everyone translates from that into french or whatever.

Does anyone remember that Johnny's Entertainment fanvid which had the Craig David song "Johnny" to it? I made it, but youtube killed my account a year or so back, and I really want to watch it again, but it's probably gotten lost. Boo.

any youtube vids to recommend? i'll watch anything right now, i don't want to go to bed :P

CLASSICAL JAPANESE BABY

Because I love it so much, here is the text we just got done translating in Evolution of Japanese. It's in classical Japanese which at first seemed like a whole other language but it's actually way cool, in an archaic way. i love how from the use of honorifics alone you're meant to get to buddha. he isn't mentioned at all otherwise. I think it sounds pretty too.

Ima wa mukashi, hito no moto ni miyazukaheshite aru nama saburahi ari keri. Suru koto no naki mama ni, Kiyomizu e, hito maneshite, sen nichi mode wo nido shitarikeri. Sono nochi, ikubaku mo nakushite, shiu no moto ni arikeru onaji you naru saburahi to, sugoroku wo uchikeru ga, ohoku makete, watasubeki mono nakarikeru ni, itakusemekereba, omohiwabite,

Long ago, there was a certain young samurai who was in the service of some lord or other. When he had nothing better to do he did like other people and carried out the 1,000 day holy pilgrimage to Kiyomizu. He had so far done this twice. He played Suguroku with a similarly-employed Samurai who also worked under a lord. But he lost a great deal, and he had nothing with which to pay his dues. The winner berated him, and he was very remorseful about it.

"Ware, mochitaru mono nashi. Tadaima, takuhahetaru mono to te wa, Kiyomizu ni ni sen do mairitaru koto nomi namu aru. Sore wo watasamu" to ihikereba, katahara ni te kiku hito wa,

"I do not have anything I can call my own. All I have saved up is two thousand prayer visits to Kiyomizu. I will give you that," he said.

"Hakaru nari" to, woko ni omohite warahikeru wo, kono kachitaru saburahi,

The people listening nearby laughed, and thinking it was foolish said "What a scam". The victor samurai said,

"Ito yoki koto nari. Watasaba emu" to ihite, "ina, kakute wa uketoraji. Mika shite, kono yoshi wo moushite, onore watasu yoshi no fumikakite watasaba koso uketorame" to ihikereba,

"It's a good deal. If you offer me that I'll take it. But no, I won't accept it like this. If you state the details of this deal before buddha, and write a contract stating it within three days from now, I'll accept."

"Yoki koto nari" to chigirite, sono hi yori shaujin shite, mika to ihikeru hi,

"That's fine," he swore upon it, and passed the next three days in religious activities until the third day came.

"Sa ha, iza, Kiyomizu e" to ihikereba, kono make saburahi,

"Well, come on then, off to Kiyomizu", he said,

"Kono shiremono ni ahitaru" to, wokashiku omohite, yorokobite tsurete mairi ni keri.

And finding it funny, the loser samurai thought "I have met with a fool", and went along with him to the temple.

ifu mama ni fumikakite, omae ni te, shi no sou yobite, koto no yoshi mousasete,

He drew up a contract as they had discussed previously, and called a priest before the presence of the buddha to read it aloud.

"Ni sen do mairi tsuru koto, soregashi ni sugoroku ni uchiiretsu", to kakite torasekereba, uketori tsutsu yorokobite, fushi ogami, makari de ni keri.

"I have gambled and lost my 2,000 visits to the temple to so and so". The loser then wrote this down and made the winner take it. The winner prostrated himself in prayer before buddha, accepting it gladly, and then left.

Sono nochi, iku hodo nakushuite, kono make saburahi, omohikakenu koto nite, toraherarete, hitoya ni inikeri. Toritaru saburahi wa, omohikakenu tayori aru tsuma maukete, ito yoku toku tsukite, tsukasa nado narite, tanomoshikutezo ari keru.

Not long after, the loser samurai was unexpectedly arrested and ended up in a prison cell. The winning samurai found a well-connected wife, and met with great luck, achieving a position in government office, and so on, and was very happy. People said that even though he had accepted something he couldn't even see, because his heart was pure, the buddha had perhaps taken pity on him.

I love a story with a moral, basically don't gamble away your good karma.

When we first got this text I was basically like HUH? why is everything backwards and upside down and in kanji? OH MY GOD. It's so freaking difficult. But once you learn the new (old?) rules of grammar it's sweet.

I skipped jellyneck's class and went home because i have a shit cold, couldn't breathe and couldn't stop coughing so I went home for cough medicine. same thing before tranter's class so i just went home, almost literally bumped into my ex getting out of the paternoster and i freaked out. if he had actually come into contact with any part of my body I would have puked. so came home feeling like i wanted to die and went to bed in the dark with the smiths on my ipod for a few hours trying to erase the image of his fucking face from my mind

how was your day?

I had it waist-length for about 5 years but I can honestly say I'd never want it long again. It's annoying and boring. Anyway I'm really looking forward to getting it cut :D and I bought one of those conditioning colours with those things that make the light reflect... idk how but it looks fun.

I talked to Maki san again last evening- her whole family went to either Waseda or Keio!
attn American peeps... what is a 3.0 grade point average? I got my Waseda forms today and that's the minimum requirement, but I don't know what the UK equivalent would be. The whole form is totally geared towards Americans, which is confusing me slightly. I think I should be cool, I've got 2 Firsts and two 2:2s, which makes a very high 2.1, almost a First overall which should be more than enough. And the important bit is the language, which I have Firsts in. Oh, also an English degree. That will look kinda sexy on the form.

Some people in our class really don't seem to care. We got a grammar sheet on monday, and we finished it off in class today. Everyone had a whole evening to check the kanji readings etc but today in class I was the only one who could read it without going "er... Sensei...kanji?" pffft.

I'm exhaustedddd had a whole day of classes today which is unusual for a UK uni student. He really isn't hot. I didn't feel anything when I saw him, which is good.

Hey

Random thoughts... I'm going to meet Josh tomorrow. We're going for a bike ride in a nature park. Should I take his picture? My friends want to see. And he is very very good looking. Heh.

I wonder what ed wanted the other day. Meh. Maybe he's interested again now I have become the Ice Queen. That would be ironic. I do miss him though. It's going to be weird seeing him again (I'm sure I'll run into him at some point, probably on a bad hair day while I'm doing something stupid.)

My mum said the other day "I bet when he sees how pretty you have gotten this summer he'll want you back."

Ok so I lost weight grew my hair bought a million clothes and pretty much keep myself maintained these days (manicure, pedicure, perfume, earrings, things I didn't use to bother with)

But who knows. I'm pretty ok with myself as I am right now.

I don't need him.

does anyone else wear perfume here? i seriously have never bothered but a friend of a friend works in the perfume shop and she got me interested. My dad got me vera wang's princess for my birthday and I love it. Kate Moss's scent is nice too.
